Flicker

I finished a new Lithograph called Flicker this week. This print will be included in the 2010 PrintZero Studios Exchange Seven.

Check the PrintZero website for exhibition sites. The exchange is typically exhibited at various places around the US and this year will have an added juried catalog of 30 prints.

The print is 10″ x 7″ and is printed with black ink on Rives BFK Gray.

Infinite, Artsite Racine

I was asked to install work as part of the Racine Arts Council program called Artsite. This program matches artists with empty storefronts in downtown Racine, Wisconsin. The work will be exhibited from July 1, 2010 until September 1, 2010 and can be found on the Southwest corner of 6th Street and Main Street in Racine.

Remembrance

My piece, Remembrance, will be in the new ArtWorks exhibition called Kenosha/Racine Arts Network Show. The exhibition runs from July 10 until August 8, 2010.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 10 from 6 pm until 9 pm. I hope to see you there!

Infinite, Detail

My most recent piece, Infinite, is currently on view at Carthage College’s H.F. Johnson Gallery. I recently documented the piece and updated my installation shots of it to include the finished state of it. Previously, it was shown as a work in progress.

Currently, the piece is occupying a space that is 14′ x 16′ x 6′. Various times of day will also be documented shortly, including night and sunrise. At sunrise over Lake Michigan, the light pours into the windows just east of where my piece hangs. The shadow and light patterns should be dramatically different at this time of day!

The exhibit is up from January 17 until February 18 at Parkside’s Communication Arts Gallery. The following excerpt is the press release for the exhibit:

The best art from the past two decades are now on display at the Parkside National Small Print Retrospective. Drawing on the top prints from 23 previous small print shows, the retrospective is open now through Feb. 18 in the Communication Arts Gallery. Selected by UW-Parkside’s Doug DeVinny who began the small print exhibition in 1986 and by gallery assistant Glen Larson, the prints represent a sampling from each year’s exhibition. Each print was purchased for UW-Parkside’s permanent collection and many have been displayed in our hallways and classroom. Others are being shown for the first time in years. “We’re excited about bringing out of storage a selection of prints that were on display during shows from the late 1980s to 2009; these are purchased prints that have not been seen on campus in recent years,” said Art Dept. Chair Trenton Baylor. Along with internationally known artists like Warrington Colescott and Carol Wax and perennial contributors like Brian Paulsen, Art Werger, and Yuji Hiratsuka, the Small Print Retrospective also showcases prints by former students like Connie Wolfe, Joshua and Andrew Brennan, and Margaret Suchland. Baylor said since this is a cross section of the best prints from past shows, patrons will see the best of the artists’ craftsmanship, vision, and experimentation. Each print has a “new look” thanks to a generous donation from Karen Johnson Boyd of Racine for framing. The Parkside National Small Print Retrospective is open Mondays and Thursdays from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Wednesdays 3 to 8 p.m.

This piece is a two-plate mezzotint and is 6 inches by 9 inches. The portfolio edition size is 26, but I will print a small edition for exhibiting and selling purposes!

In March, I am taking part in an invitational exhibition at The Miller Art Museum in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The exhibition is called Printmaking Invitational Exhibition 2010 and runs from March 6 through April 20 with a reception on Saturday, March 6 from 3-4:30. I will exhibit 4 new digital pieces that will incorporate screenprinting and hand-cutting.

Also in March, my new mezzotint, Remembrance, will be part of a portfolio exchange, Mezzotint: The Illuminated Mark. This exchange will include many known mezzotint artists and will be exhibited at the Southern Graphics Council conference in Philadelphia, PA at the Tyler School of Art/Temple University.

Finally, Dialogue, Spectacle, and Fabrications: Art Faculty Exhibition will run from April 6 through May 15 at the H.F. Johnson Gallery of Art, Carthage College, with a reception on April 8 from 4:30-7:30. My installation, Infinite, will be featured in this group exhibition.

As the work is finished and installed, I will post pictures for you to see. Hopefully I will see you at some of the receptions!

A small portion of my new installation, Infinite, will be featured in an invitational exhibition at ArtWorks in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Each artist was to submit a song that inspires them in some way while making art in general or the exhibited piece specifically. During the opening reception, the Laurenzi Dance company will be performing an interpretive piece based on the music. The music will be played as a backdrop to the exhibition for the rest of the time it is displayed.

The show runs from August 1 until September 5 and the reception is on August 8 from 6 pm-9pm.

The premise of this exhibition was for the curator to pick a variety of art professors from around the US. In turn, each professor had to pick three of their past students to be included in the exhibition also. Doug DeVinny was my professor in the exhibit and his influence still comes through in my work.

The exhibition is at the Abercrombie Gallery, Shearman Fine Arts Center, McNeese State University from July 8 until August 21.
