My new piece, Disintegration, is now on view at the Coalition Gallery! After many hours and a lot of help, I am excited to finally get to exhibit the piece in its entirety. The materials involved in making the piece include: Monotype on hand-cut mulberry paper, monofilament, crochet, glass beads, medium, wood and fabric. The final dimensions of the installed piece are 9 feet by 9 feet by 11 feet. I hope that you get a chance to see it in person if you are in the Chicago area! Time Signatures, the Coalition Gallery Resident's last group exhibition, will be shown at 217 North Carpenter Street in Chicago's West Loop through Friday, September 16. There will be a closing reception on September 16 from 5-7 and we will be open for the West Loop's Gallery Crawl on Friday, September 9 from 6-8.
This piece is currently on view in the exhibition, Trail Mix, at the Coalition Gallery at 217 North Carpenter Street in Chicago's West Loop Gallery District. It is a portion of my upcoming installation that will be on view in August. Trail Mix runs through July 5.
My drawing, Daybreak, will be in Chicago's first Art Loop Open! Out of almost 800 entries, nearly 200 were accepted to exhibit in various venues around the Chicago Loop as part of Chicago's Artists Month. The Art Loop Open will kick off with an Art Crawl on Friday, October 15 and will be up through November 12. The Jury included: Susan Aurinko, Former Director of Flatfile Galleries and Independent Curator; Theaster Gates, Director of Arts Development, University of Chicago; Mary Jane Jacob, School of the Art Institute, Author and Curator; and Tricia Van Eck, Associate Curator, Museum of Contemporary Arts.
Voting will take place by all visitors in two rounds. Round one will be from October 15-22 and on October 22, the top 10 vote getters will be announced. Round two will then take place from October 22-29. Voters will vote for their favorite piece from the top 10 and the top 3 will then win $25,000, $15,000, and $10,000 respectively. Other awards will also be announced on October 29 including 4 solo exhibitions to be selected by loop galleries!
I finished a new Lithograph called Flicker this week. This print will be included in the 2010 PrintZero Studios Exchange Seven.
Check the PrintZero website for exhibition sites. The exchange is typically exhibited at various places around the US and this year will have an added juried catalog of 30 prints.
The print is 10" x 7" and is printed with black ink on Rives BFK Gray.
My most recent piece, Infinite, is currently on view at Carthage College's H.F. Johnson Gallery. I recently documented the piece and updated my installation shots of it to include the finished state of it. Previously, it was shown as a work in progress.
Currently, the piece is occupying a space that is 14' x 16' x 6'. Various times of day will also be documented shortly, including night and sunrise. At sunrise over Lake Michigan, the light pours into the windows just east of where my piece hangs. The shadow and light patterns should be dramatically different at this time of day!
I am happy to report that I finally finished my new mezzotint, Remembrance. It was completed for a mezzotint portfolio that will be exhibited at the Southern Graphics Council Conference in Philadelphia in March. This piece is a two-plate mezzotint and is 6 inches by 9 inches. The portfolio edition size is 26, but I will print a small edition for exhibiting and selling purposes!
